Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Goa Prant, in association with Sukhasamruddha Lifestyle Foundation, organised the “Goan Traditional Wild Vegetables Exhibition" on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at Shri Navdurga Temple Hall, Bori, Goa.
The exhibition was organised with the objective of introducing the younger generation to Goa’s rich tradition of wild vegetables, preserving traditional knowledge, and promoting awareness about nutrition, biodiversity and sustainable food practices.
Key Highlights
The event featured a Wild Vegetables Specimen Exhibition-cum-Competition for school students from the Shiroda, Bori, Panchwadi, Betoda–Nirankal–Kodar areas and invited secondary schools. Students displayed specimens of traditional wild vegetables along with their local names, uses and medicinal properties, providing them with an opportunity for hands-on learning and exploration of Goa’s traditional food heritage.
A Wild Vegetables Culinary Competition was also organised for women from Bori village. Participants prepared a variety of traditional dishes using wild vegetables, helping showcase and revive traditional recipes that are gradually becoming less common.
The event also included an exhibition and information display highlighting the nutritional and health benefits, traditional uses and importance of conserving wild vegetables. Efforts were also made to facilitate the availability and sale of selected wild vegetables to visitors.
Participation & Recognition:
Students and women participating in the competitions were awarded Certificates of Participation, while winners of the specimen and culinary competitions were recognised with prizes for the first, second and third positions.
The programme received support from local Biodiversity Management Committees and environmental enthusiasts.
The initiative was also aligned with the emphasis of the National Education Policy 2020 on traditional knowledge, environment, traditional practices, food and nutrition. Through this initiative, the organisers sought to strengthen the connection between communities, nature and Goa’s traditional food heritage.
